Nahal Elot drains Mount Ramon and Mount Romem to Nahal Nitzana a drop of almost 800 meters. The name of the river is given because of hundreds of Pistacia Atlantia ( Elot in enrew ) trees that grows here. The tree habitat in Atlas Mountains (from which the tree derives its name). Here, between the peaks of the high Negev Highland, is the largest concentration of these species in Israel. It is mentioned in the Bible : "And they offer sacrifices on the hills, under oaks and poplars and terebinths, because their shadow is good." (Hosea 4, 13).
